Linda Irene Thomas

Linda Irene Thomas, surrounded by loved ones, went home to be with the Lord on March 9,2026 after an extended illness.

Born on November 18, 1950, in New York City to the late William and Loretta (Matthews) Cohen.

Linda was caring, adventurous, and hard-working. She seemed to have lived her life in two phases. The first was in New York City where she grew up and began her education in the city's public school system and the second when she relocated to Alexandria, Virginia where she went back to school, obtaining her GED and CNA Certification.

In 2018 Linda retired from INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital after 25 years of service due to failing health. In addition to her work at Mt. Vernon, she provided care to numerous individuals as a private duty aide. Linda loved her work; she felt providing healthcare assistance to be her life calling.

Linda married David McDaniel in 1967 who predeceased her in death in 1974. In 1978 She married Charles Thomas, who predeceased her in death in 2017. Linda was the proud mother of 5 Children, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren

After relocating to Alexandria, Linda joined Alfred Street Baptist Church and later New Life Fellowship Church. Linda grew exponentially in her faith and thoroughly enjoyed her weekly bible study classes. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Sacramento Community Center providing meals to those in need.

Services will be held at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA. Family visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm. Her interment will be Monday, March 23, 2026, Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Pineland SC.

In keeping with Linda's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children 's Research Hospital.
