Linda G. Timberlake

Linda G. Timberlake, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on January 13, 1948, in Salisbury, North Carolina, Linda was the cherished daughter of the late Doris S. Harris and William B. Garrett. Her journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and an enduring spirit of service.
Linda grew up in Salisbury, where she graduated from Boyden High School. Her passion for helping others led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which she completed in 1969. Linda's caring nature found its true calling in nursing, a profession that allowed her to touch countless lives with her kindness and expertise.
In a career that spanned decades, Linda became the beloved Director of Azalea Estates Assisted Living Community in Slidell, where she served from its inception in 1995 until her retirement in 2013. For 18 years, she provided leadership and comfort to both residents and staff. Her dedication to the elderly was not just a job but a calling, as she poured her heart into ensuring the highest quality of life for those in her care.
Linda's life was also defined by her role as a devoted Marine Corps wife. She was married for 55 years to the love of her life, the late Lt. Col. Thomas H. Timberlake Jr., USMC, Retired. Linda's unwavering support for her husband afforded her the opportunity to accompany him to various duty stations, both stateside and international, throughout their life together. Her strength and adaptability were the cornerstones of their successful partnership.
Her greatest pride was her family, especially her daughter, Meredith Timberlake Segura, and son-in-law, John D. Segura III. Linda was the most caring and loving mother, always putting her daughter's needs before her own. Her guidance and love shaped Meredith's life in innumerable ways, and the bond they shared was unbreakable.
An animal lover at heart, Linda had a special fondness for dogs, especially her dog, Trooper, and her granddogs, Moose and Zulu. Her weekends were once filled with trapshooting alongside her husband. Linda was also an avid football fan and enjoyed cheering on the New Orleans Saints, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and North Carolina Tar Heels. She was also an active member of the Widows' Social Club of Slidell and was previously active with the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.
Above all, Linda had a servant's heart. She was a friend to many, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. Her legacy is one of love, service, and the countless lives she enriched through her presence. Linda's memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many hearts she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A funeral service will begin in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Linda will be laid to rest in Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services to assist local pets in need or to Asheville Humane Society to aid pets impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina.
