Linda Elaine Yarber Schwieger, age 75, of Nashville, TN passed away on March 8, 2024. She was born in Detroit, MI, on May 4, 1948, as the eldest child of the late Clyde and Mildred Yarber.
After graduating from high school in Dearborn Heights, MI, she went to work for the Bell Telephone Company. A transfer within Bell brought her to Nashville where she met and married her husband of almost 55 years, Jerry Wayne Schwieger.
Linda was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, specifically the Crieve Hall Church of Christ since 1980. She used her talents and passions to serve in a number of ministries of the church. She and Jerry loved kids and taught the 5-year-old Sunday School class for 36 years. Linda was a hard worker and natural organizer, and she used these gifts in the Bible Correspondence Course and Visitation Ministries. She was a lifelong seamstress, knitter and crafter, often giving away the fruits of her labor and she taught these skills to groups of refugees and immigrants.
She was a great mother, involved in her children's and grandchildren's interests. She was a supporter of Ezell-Harding Christian School in Antioch, where she participated in fundraising and as a room mother, team cheerleader and supporter of the activities in which her kids and their friends were involved.
Linda loved people. She loved hearing and telling a good story and was quick with a laugh. She cherished time with friends and family. She loved her neighbors and was active for years as a board member of the Haywood Lane Neighborhood Association.
Despite her fear of bugs and distaste for camping, she was a dedicated scout leader and spent more than 15 years on the Troop Committee for Boy Scout Troop 77. She also worked for years at Crieve Hall Church of Christ's youth summer camp as head cook in the kitchen and later registering kids on the first day of camp.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Sue Yarber. She is survived by her husband Jerry; two sons, Scott (Jessica) of Franklin, TN, and Brian (Christen) of Little Rock, AR; a sister, Beverly (Steve) Strange of Valdosta, GA; a brother, Patrick Yarber of Nashville; and three grandchildren, John, Abe and Arlie Schwieger of Franklin, TN.
A funeral service will be conducted at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. A private burial will occur on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Camp Leatherwood Dining Hall Fund in care of Crieve Hall Church of Christ.
