Linda Yu Obituary

At midnight on June 23, 2024, Linda Yung-Tzu Yu (nee Lin/Hayashi) passed away peacefully with family by her side after a long battle with lung cancer. Lovingly known to everyone as "Utako" or "Eiko", Eiko was born to Ten-Tien Lin and Chu Wu in Tokyo, Japan on August 19, 1942. In 1967, Eiko immigrated to the United States and married Ta-shon Yu, her husband of 57 years. She devoted her life to raising her three daughters, caring for her family, and indulging in her love of Japanese cooking, art, movies, singing, and ice cream.
Eiko is survived by her husband, Ta-shon, daughters Winnie Yu Prechtl of Groton, Massachusetts, Jane Yu of Potomac, Maryland, Stacy Yu of Rockville, Maryland, and grandchildren Sydney, Madeline, and Cassandra Prechtl, Alex and Katherine Pease, and Hannah Flood.
The family will be remembering Eiko privately in the United States and in Japan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Cancer Program at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center or Montgomery Hospice & Prince George's Hospice in memory of Linda "Eiko" Yu.
