Obituary
Lindell McLeod, the second child of the late Ella and Ben McLeod, was born November 27, 1947 in Sanford, NC. Lindell got his name from his uncles, Linwood Douglas, and Odell McLeod. He began his education at Lee Elementary School and completed it at W. B Wicker High, class of 1966. Lindell grew up in Star OF Hope O.F.W. Baptist Church and was a lifelong member. Although his employment with Knotts Funeral Home did not allow him to always attend his home church, he was well known in all of the churches in Sanford, and the surrounding counties, and even outside of North Carolina. After high school, Lindell moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he was employed with Coca Cola, Inc. He returned home in 1967 to answer the draft. He began basic training with his classmate, Harrison Brown, and his lifelong friend, Millard "Billy" Mauldin, and served in Vietnam and in Korea on the Demilitarized Zone with the U.S. Army from December 7, 1967 until June 8, 1969. Lindell was honorably discharged and went on to serve actively in the Reserve from July 8, 1969 until August 20, 1971.
Lindell wore many hats, and was employed as a truck driver, a roofer, a chimney sweeper, and a factory worker, but found his niche with Knotts Funeral Home, where he remained for forty years.
God tasked Lindell to raise eleven daughters, whom he adored. There was never a dull moment, even though he was always outnumbered. Lindell, being the son of an avid hunter, followed in his father's foot steps, and loved hunting, fishing, sports, and woodworking. Among other things, Lindell loved music, and would listen for hours to Ole school, and gospel. Lindell was very family oriented, and loved his family wholeheartedly. He will be remembered for his smile, a smile that you could see from a distance, and one that he always greeted you with, and his compassion, and love for others.
Lindell was proceded in death by his parents, Ella and Ben McLeod, his maternal grandparents Rossetta and Harry Douglas, his paternal grandparents Addie Lanier-McLeod and Lex Mcleod, two brothers Bennie Lee McLeod, and Harry Michael McLeod, two sisters, Deborah M. Hooker, and Sandra M. Hayes, a daughter Shyletha McLeod, his God parents, Prince Albert and TottieBelle Cole.
His precious memories and legacy will live on through his wife Dewey L. McLeod of the home; six daughters, Keisha Petty (Jeffrey), J Laneise McLeod, Lyndra Johnson (Robert), Mia McLeod, Charmyka Marrow, and Keima Marrow; two brothers, Donald McLeod (Carolyn) of Fayetteville, NC, and Vincent McLeod; two sisters, Gwendolyn McLeod and Beverly McLeod; and a God sister, Paulette "Bootsie" Wooten. He also leaves to cherish his memories, eleven grandchildren; nine great-grand-children, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Including Henry Earl Cameron, his hunting and fishing gang, the Knotts family, and Nelson Funeral Home staff.
