Lindy Wright Obituary
Lindy Strom Wright, 81, passed away on April 21, 2024 after a short stay at Brookmeade's rehab center in Rhinebeck. The daughter of George and Jean Strom, Lindy was born September 13, 1942 in New York City. She later moved with her family to
Bristol, Tennessee, then to Atlanta to pursue a career in retail.
Anyone who knew Lindy knew that she was a powerhouse, a beacon of positivity with an unwavering work ethic. Her effervescence was contagious and she could transform a room with her unyielding optimism. Lindy's desire to better the lives of others extended to all. She brightened the faces of many a bored and cranky toddler with the little cars and toy animals she carried in her bag.
As a professional, she shattered glass ceilings as the first female executive for Saks Fifth Avenue. She retired early and launched a second career in antiques and interiors with her husband Al Boutin, creating a successful company that would span another 20 years. Lindy was just as proud of her unpaid accomplishments. While still living in Atlanta, Lindy's fundraising leadership helped take the non-profit Atlanta Pet Rescue from a small collection of stray dogs and cats to a no-kill shelter housing and treating more than 1200 pets a year.
After relocating to Rhinebeck to be with her children and grandchildren, Lindy turned her fundraising efforts to Sinterklaas, creating the Love It or Swap It annual fundraiser. She also volunteered and fundraised for People's Place in Kingston, which she said was the best nonprofit she'd ever worked with.
Lindy will be remembered most by her family as an amazing grandmother. She put all of her love, skills and passion into time spent with her grandchildren. She had a craft closet to rival any Michael's or Joann's and was always ready to start a new project with one of them. She was the glue and the inspiration.
Lindy's time in Rhinebeck was spent with her husband of 35 years, Al Boutin, and two children Adam (Jessica) Wright and Matt (Karen Pearson) Wright. She is also survived by her brother Gerry Strom, sister Chris Strom, stepsons David (Sam) Boutin and John (Lori) Miller, and her four grandchildren, Ava, Max, Calder, and Lark.
All are welcome to celebrate Lindy's life with us on May 11, 2024, 11 a.m. at Church of the Messiah, 6436 Montgomery Street (Route 9) in Rhinebeck. There will be a service followed by a remembrance and celebration of life with lunch in the Parish Hall.
