Linwood Gissendanner, a beloved father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Independence Village in Saginaw.
Linwood was born on October 16, 1936, in Ozark, Alabama to Roy Gissendanner and Plessie (Matthews) Gissendanner. He was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School, he carried the values of diligence and integrity throughout his life, traits that endeared him to coworkers and friends alike. He worked as a Millwright for Malleable Iron Foundry, where he was known for his hard work and commitment, and retired after 40 years of service.
His family and friends would describe Linwood as fun, jovial, and charming. Linwood was a source of joy and laughter. He possessed a deep passion for sports, especially being an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions. Beyond sports, he found tranquility in fishing and riding his motorcycle.
Linwood is survived by his children: Don (Sabrina) Gissendanner, Deborah Gissendanner, Darrell (Renee) Gissendanner, Dolores Gissendanner-Collins, Lynn (Perry) Gissendanner-Tarleton, and Michelle Gissendanner; grandchildren: Taniesha (Daymon) Williams, Lakesha Martin, Turquoise (Stephen) Foster, Rico (Jazman) Martin, Ronald (Avery) Collins Jr., Darrell (Jennifer) Gissendanner, Jr., Austin Tarleton, Billy Richardson, D'Andre Richardson, Mya Gissendanner, and Darrell R. Gissendanner; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Arthur (Iris) Gissendanner, a sister Flodora Motton, a sister-in-law Doretha Gissendanner, and many nieces and nephews.
Linwood was preceded in death by his loving parents, Roy Gissendanner and Plessie (Mathews) Gissendanner; his son, Billy Gissendanner; and his siblings: Willis, Monroe, Early, Leroy, Don, and John Gissendanner.
Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor JD Howell will officiate the service and interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
