Lionel Cornelius Chandler Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, concluded his earthly journey on June 20, 2025, in Melfa, Virginia. He was born to the late Desso Chandler Hugee and Roland Major, Sr. on August 6, 1959, in Painter, Virginia.
A graduate of Central High School, class of 1977, Lionel's commitment to service and country led him to a distinguished 13-year career in the U.S. Army, where he dedicated himself as a mechanic. His work ethic, reliability, and skillset made him a respected figure amongst his peers and served as an inspiration to many who knew him. Lionel's dedication to his country was equaled only by his stead-fast love for his wife, Caroline Chandler, whom he married on October 9, 1977. Together, they built a life filled with mutual respect, unwavering support, and a bond that stood as a testament to true partnership.
Beyond his professional and family life, Lionel was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, quietly guiding him in his daily life and interactions with others.
Lionel's hobbies included an avid interest in coin collecting and a profound love for music. His love for games allowed him to forge lasting friendships and connections. Whether it was a game of Spades, a round of Phase 10, or a lively game of Dominoes, Lionel's competitiveness was on full display, bringing joy and laughter to those around the table.
