Lisa Captain passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children, on September 7, 2025, at the age of 66. Beloved mother of Jeremy (Jessica), Ryan (Michelle), Shawn (Jessica), Arielle (Bob), and Quinn. Cherished grandmother who adored every single one of her ten grandchildren: Mia, Carter, Chance, Bentley, Liam, Kenzie, Joslyn, Willow, Charlotte, and Eleanor. Devoted daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Allnutt. Loving sister, aunt, and dear friend to many.
Lisa was born on August 4, 1959, in Peoria, Illinois. She spent much of her childhood enjoying summers on her aunt and uncle's farm, where she learned to appreciate both hard work and the simple pleasures of country life. She later moved to Oak Lawn, Illinois, where she built her home and raised her family.
Lisa married the love of her life, Doug Captain, shortly after high school. Together, they raised their family in Oak Lawn, and were heavily involved in scouting and Westside Baseball. The family spent countless weekends at their two trailers at Double K-D Campground, where many treasured memories were made. When the children were still very young, Lisa faced the challenges of raising them on her own and carried that responsibility with remarkable strength and devotion.
She supported her children through scouts, baseball, football, and cheerleading, rarely missing a game, practice, or event. She worked tirelessly to provide for them, ensuring they never went without, even when it required sacrifice on her part. During their teenage years, her love and care extended beyond her own children. She became a "second mom" to many of their friends. With her open-door policy, she created a welcoming home where everyone felt safe, cared for, and included.
Later in life, when Doug returned to Chicago, he and Lisa rekindled their bond and shared meaningful time together before his passing.
Lisa carried on her family's legacy as a third-generation owner of Leonhardt Caramel Apple & Freezepops. After her divorce, she dedicated over 20 years to H&R Block, where she truly enjoyed the art of doing taxes. Even after leaving, she continued to prepare returns independently, taking pride in her work and the chance to help others.
Her creativity shone through in countless ways. Lisa loved crafting, making engraved cups, custom T-shirts, and puzzles, many of them personalized gifts for her grandchildren. Each Christmas, she prepared unique, customized presents for every grandchild, a tradition they will forever treasure. She also poured her love into baking, filling her kitchen each holiday season with more than ten kinds of cookies and treats, which she shared generously with friends and family. Many of her recipes will be a focus of family dinners for years to come. Summers found her in the garden, where she passed on her love of growing vegetables, especially Brussels sprouts, to her grandchildren.
Lisa cherished time spent traveling and camping. The annual family trip to the Covered Bridge Festival was a highlight of her year. She also loved visiting Disney, creating magical memories for her children and grandchildren alike.
A proud Catholic, Lisa raised her children in the faith and instilled in them her values of love, resilience, and devotion. She was also a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, faithfully cheering them on through victories and losses alike. She especially loved Sundays filled with football, snacks, and fantasy football leagues with her family.
Lisa had a strong and protective spirit, always putting her loved ones first. She was known for her little quirks, like drawing "Kilroy" on every birthday card, and for her big heart, which made everyone feel special.
Lisa was loved and cherished by more people than one can count. She will forever be missed, always remembered, and endlessly loved.
