LISA SUE MEELY
Lisa Sue Meely, age 48, passed away on January 1, 2026, in Springer. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 9, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home with interment to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Lisa was born on September 9, 1977, in Orange County, California, to Johnny Lee Meely and Arnetta Sue Amos. She graduated from Ardmore High School with the class of 1995. While in high school she was a member of the Color Guard.
Lisa initially worked at the Chickasaw Library before serving as a Supervisor at MMI. She then joined the Chickasaw Nation, working at the casino, and later pursued additional education to become a pharmacy technician. Her last role, she served within the child support division as a receptionist.
Lisa loved to organize and help with fundraisers, her specialty was Indian taco sales. Her frybread was the best. She was a member of the Chickasaw Nation and was also proud of her Choctaw heritage, attending the pow-wows in Durant with her mom.
Lisa had a big heart and at one time took in foster children to care for. She was known to cook a meal, give her last dime, give rides, and even allow you to stay in her home if you needed a place to stay. Family and friends were very important to her, and she enjoyed cooking out and big get-togethers, watching OU football games and watching scary movies. She enjoyed going to concerts when she was able to, she liked R&B music the most. She was a member of Faith Southern Baptist Church in Dickson where she attended many services with her long-time friend, Sharon Dodson and her family. She was also a member of the Emmaus Community.
The biggest joy and adventure of her life was her son Derek. She loved him with her whole heart. She raised him in church, many years attending Crystal Rock Cathedral. As Derek grew up, she attended school functions, made sure he was doing good in school and she enjoyed watching him play football being his biggest fan. When he was chosen to participate in the Blue-Grey All American Bowl, and needed to pay a big fee, she went to work raising money. Indian tacos were a big hit.
There isn't enough space to say all that we could. Lisa and her infectious smile will be missed until we are reunited with her again.
