God called our angel home on February 10, 2024 surrounded by many of her loved ones. Liza Geraldine (Jean) was born to Joe and Rosie Carnline Shoemaker on February 22, 1937. She was deeply loved by all her family and friends. She was best known as Aunt Jean not just to nieces and nephews, but to all her friends and neighbors.
Jean loved being outside. If you drove by her house, she would often be seen sitting on her porch enjoying a cup of coffee, caring for her chickens, tending her flowers, or on her lawnmower. She loved and took great pride in her yard.
Jean was a fine Christian lady who loved her Lord. She was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church of Robeline as long as she was able to attend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Rosie Shoemaker; two sisters, Margie McFerrin and Rosie Rawls; three brothers, Otis, Odis, and George Shoemaker.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Dockens of Fort Jesup, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church of Robeline with Bro. Brian Jennings officiating and Bro. Daniel Lowe assisting. Interment will follow in Lambertown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. Monday, February 12, 2024 at Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church of Robeline. Funeral services under the direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Rawls, Dewayne Shoemaker, James Dale Shoemaker, Stanley Shoemaker, B.J. Shoemaker, and Ronald Dockens.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Chico and his staff, Hospice of Natchitoches, Sue Sparish, Laurie Barnard and all the family that helped care for Jean. We thank each one that prayed, texted, called, brought food, and otherwise offered love and support. We also offer a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Hickory Grove for opening up their door and their hearts in our time of grief.
