Lloyd Canute Obituary

Lloyd "Nute" Harris Canute of Oscoda, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Oscoda Fields Assisted Living with his beloved family by his side.
Lloyd was 94 years old and was born to Harry D. and Eleanor L. (Cornman) Canute on Feb. 21, 1929 in Big Creek Township. He graduated from Fairview High School with the Class of 1947.
Lloyd proudly served our country with the U.S. Navy Reserves from Jan. 30, 1950 until his honorable separation on Jan. 29, 1954. He quickly became a very skilled and knowledgeable electrician, earning his Master's license. Lloyd maintained his active license for 70 years and was a lifetime member of the Local Union 692 in Bay City.
During his long and dedicated career, Lloyd volunteered his labor efforts for Oscoda Area High School, overseeing the electrical work projects. For over 50 years, Lloyd also worked at Oscoda Wurtsmith Air Force Base as an Electrical Contractor. After his retirement, Lloyd was employed as the Electrical Inspector for Iosco County for many years, serving also on the county Zoning Board, and an appointed Trustee on the Planning Commission Board.
Being an active community supporter was extremely important to Lloyd. Finding balance between his work, family, and hobbies, Lloyd unselfishly gave countless hours of passion to help mentor and coach children and youth, including his own, in Little League baseball, basketball, and softball. Lloyd absolutely loved coaching and following his children with sports throughout the years.
He was a former member of the Oscoda Lions Club, having earned the "Lion of The Year" award in 1989-1990. Also, Lloyd was a former member of the Rose City Masonic Lodge. Being a faithful and devout member over 50 years of the Oscoda Baptist Church, Lloyd is registered as the longest and oldest church member! Practicing and sharing his Christian values, Lloyd was able to mentor and participate with the Brigade Program, a youth Christian Boys Club for the Oscoda Baptist Church.
When he found time for himself, Lloyd enjoyed golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, bird watching, and chasing squirrels! Above all else, spending time with his children and grandchildren had a special place in his heart.
Lloyd married his wife and best friend, Carol Jean (Dague) on May 31, 1952. Together, Lloyd and Carol have celebrated 71 beautiful years of marriage, and she survives Lloyd along with their three children, Claudia Schiller, Mark (Patti) Canute, and Ken (Judy) Canute; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents; and his sisters and brothers, Charlotte, Gladys, Dean, Leonard, Bill, Alice, and Ken.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will celebrate his life during a memorial service on Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda. Lloyd's family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Saturday for a time of gathering from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Those wishing to express their condolences through a memorial donation are encouraged to consider a contribution to either the Oscoda Area High School or the Canute family wishes. An online guest registry is available to leave a message of love and support for Lloyd's family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
