Lloyd Cooper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Addy Funeral Home on Mar. 9, 2026.
Lloyd Gene Cooper, 93, of Newcomerstown, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at his home.

Gene was born July 24, 1932, in Muskogee, OK to the late Reverend Lloyd James and Dottie Grace (Woodman) Cooper.

Gene was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving 30 years from 1952 to 1982 during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a Chief Senior Master Sergeant E-9. He was awarded many medals. He had attended Oklahoma State University for two years before entering the service. When he retired he helped his wife Lida, with her tax business. He was a member of the American Legion, and while in Texas, was a member of the Stone Oak Cumberland Presbyterian church in San Antonio; once in Ohio, he was a member of the Newcomerstown Church of the Nazarene.

He loved to travel all over the world. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan. He read his devotions every day. If you asked how he was doing, he would say he was "Terrific!" or "Super fantastic!" because he had a joyful personality. He was a wonderful dad and grandpa.

On August 4, 1956, he married the love of his life, Lida Elaine (Wayman) Cooper, who passed away November 24, 2008.

He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Laine Hood of Texas and Cammy Jean Cooper of Newcomerstown; his grandchildren, Mallory Leigh Thompson, Grant Harley Slape, Lori Danielle (Tim) Tyson, Katie Ann (Kevin) Miller, Carrie Jean (Todd) Gammeter, Ashlee Irene (Patrick) Knable; his great-grandchildren, Eliana Ann, Malachi Clarence, and Isaac Christian Miller, Titus James, Rose Carolyn and Eli Samuel Tyson, Ellis Patrick, Mera Irene, and Isla Jane Knable, Keenan Edward and Isabella Beck Gammeter.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sisters, Bettie Lorane Holtman and Ellen Louise Young.

A visitation will be held at Addy Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

Gene will be laid to rest on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Karoma Cemetery in Goltry, Oklahoma.

Memorial Contributions in Gene's honor may be made to the building fund at either the Stone Oak Cumberland Presbyterian Church (20024 Crescent Oaks, San Antonio, TX 78258) or First Baptist Church of Newcomerstown (135 S. River St. Newcomerstown, OH 43832).
