Lloyd Gryder Obituary

Visit the Mountain Valley Funeral Home - Joshua website to view the full obituary.

Lloyd William Gryder was born on October 20, 1963, in Bay City, Texas, and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 12, 2025.

Lloyd spent much of his early childhood working on farms throughout Central Texas with his father, Dennis Gryder, and his brother, Darryl Gryder. He later moved to Andrews, Texas, to be with his mother, Jackie Gryder, and his sister, Debra Glasgow (Gryder), where he graduated from Andrews High School. After high school, he moved to Dallas to attend Criswell College ('90), and later earned his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary ('97).

In 1986, Lloyd met the love of his life, Cathy. Lloyd, best known as G-Dad, was a devoted husband, loving father, and deeply cared for his entire family. A follower of Jesus Christ, Lloyd had a big heart for sharing the Gospel. Ordained in ministry in 2002, he served as a pastor for several years in southern Tarrant and Dallas counties. He believed strongly in the importance of bringing the message of Jesus to everyone he met.

Many lives were touched through his faithful ministry whether he was walking the streets of South Dallas before church and inviting those he met, driving the church bus through downtown, going door-to-door to share the Gospel, or preaching from the pulpit. Lloyd lived out his faith boldly yet humbly among his coworkers, always offering a kind word, a listening ear, and a helping hand. Lloyd's heart was always set on pointing others to Christ.

Outside of ministry, Lloyd served the students of Mansfield ISD for 25 years, first as a bus driver, and later maintaining the FFA facility and district properties in Rendon.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Gryder, and his mother, Jackie Gryder.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Gryder; his son, Dustin Gryder, and wife, Lauren; and his grandson, Douglas. He is also survived by his brother, Darryl Gryder, and wife, Penny; his sister, Debra Glasgow, and husband, Tim; his brother, WD Gryder; his sister, Deanna Gryder; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse to assist those impacted by the recent devastating floods and others in need, or to the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program to support missions, evangelism, and ministry throughout Texas and around the world.
