Penelope Gryder

Penelope Gryder, age 72, passed away on November 21, 2025 in Monahans, TX. She was born on October 21, 1953 in Kermit, TX to Henry Matthews and Anita Nelda (Slatton) Bounds. Penelope married Darryl Gryder on February 27, 2021 in Kermit, TX and they celebrated 4 years together.
Penelope had a deep love for raising horses and caring for other animals. She enjoyed going fast and smoking the tires on her numerous motorcycles and corvettes. In her professional life, she was very hard working in the field of finance and also served as the President of the American Business Women's Association of El Paso. Penelope loved to travel and lived her life to the fullest. She was a loving mom and was fondly known as "Penny" to her friends and family. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Anita Bounds; and brother: Henry Bounds.
She is survived by her husband: Darryl Gryder of Kermit, TX; sons: Richard Brooks and wife Terice of Boise, ID, and James Hopkins and wife Juliet of St. George, UT; brother: John Bounds of Breckenridge, TX; sister: Nelda Ditto of Mineral Wells, TX; and grandchildren: Scarlett Brooks and Violet Brooks.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
