Lloyd Reynolds Machia
Our dearly beloved brother, Lloyds Reynolds Machia, chose on July 31st to walk in greener pastures and join our mother and father in Heaven.

He has found a new body-free of handicaps and difficulties-and has been reunited with his younger brothers Robert, Richard, and Dennis Machia, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who went before him.

Born on June 8, 1945, to Ralph Machia and Edna (Marion) Creller Machia, he was the oldest of five siblings. His sisters, Deborah A. Corey of Roanoke, VA, and Donna D. Trainor of Tariffville, CT, will deeply miss his presence in their lives.

One of his greatest joys was being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

He spent 80 years on this earth teaching others that it is the simple things in life that should be cherished: family, food, gardening, animals, fishing, kids, and popcorn.

After many years working on a farm alongside his dad, they eventually returned to Vermont. Following the passing of his parents, Lloyd moved into assisted living at Holiday House, where he enjoyed gardening, maintaining the lawns, and clearing walkways and cars for the staff in the winter.

In 2015, he chose to move to Virginia with his sister and was blessed to have Dennis, Jen, Grace, and Ashlyn Corey help oversee his care for ten years.

Though his dreams of having a wife, family, and farm were never realized, that never stopped him from working hard, taking care of others, protecting those he loved, and, of course, fishing. Being idle was simply not in his vocabulary. His gentle spirit taught his family that having a handicap just means seeing possibilities instead of limitations. He believed that determination is 99% of the battle-and he was determined.

His final years were spent at Berkshire Health and Rehab in Vinton, VA. He was known for being a big flirt and had no hesitation in asking-or telling-the ladies, mostly the nurses, that he would marry them.

His sisters would like to thank the wonderful staff of Berkshire Unit 3 for the love and care they gave him each and every day. "Big Pappa," as he was known, is still proposing to all of you.

Casey, Alicia, Kelly, Mary Beth, Allynna, Angela-as well as all the CNAs we can't even begin to name-please know that we were truly blessed by your kindness and dedication.

On October 11th, 2025, Lloyd will be laid to rest with Mom and Dad at Alburgh Center Cemetery in Alburgh, VT at 11:00 AM, with a Celebration of Life to follow.
