Lloyd Mickelson Obituary
Lloyd was born on February 24, 1934, to Lawrence "Mickey" Mickelson and Lelah (Browning) Mickelson. He was born and raised in Dixon, Montana, where he attended Dixon Schools. After graduating from high school, Lloyd proudly served in the United States Army, including overseas service in Germany. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Doris Rodgers, Wayne Mickelson, and Eldon Mickelson.
He is survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, William (Theresa) Rodgers, Michael (Lily) Rodgers, Maureen Lee, Keith Rodgers, Theresa Rodgers, Monica (Dave) Bourgeau, and Echo (Casey) Hayder, and many great nieces and nephews, as well as his sisters-in-law, Kathy Mickelson (Eldon) and Judy Mickelson (Wayne). Lloyd was a devoted uncle and a cherished presence in the lives of his family.
Upon returning from the Army, Lloyd made his home once again in Dixon, where he spent his career as a railroad worker for BN/MRL until his retirement in the 1990s. This earned him his CB radio handle and nickname, "Gandy Dancer." Lloyd shared a special bond with his siblings and especially loved talking with his brother and nephew over CB and short-wave radios.
Lloyd also had a lifelong love of working on cars and was an excellent mechanic who generously helped friends, family, and neighbors well into his later years. He enjoyed listening to Spanish music and famously kept an 8-track player and tapes in his car-one of many things that made him uniquely himself.
Lloyd will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, his willingness to help others, and his deep love for family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Clark Fork Valley Hospital Long-Term Care, where Lloyd resided for the past five years.
