Keith Mills, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 78, in Denison, Texas just one day shy of his 79th birthday. Keith was born on April 6, 1946, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Lloyd and Kathleen Mills. He moved to Durant, Oklahoma at the age of four and lived most of his life there, where he raised his family and formed lifelong connections, until his daughter moved him to Denison, Texas, in the final year of his life, making him a reluctant Texan. He loved Oklahoma!
Keith was a man of deep faith and commitment to the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Bible Baptist Church in Durant for over 40 years, where he served as both a deacon and an ordained preacher. His ministry extended beyond the church, as he was known for his heartfelt nursing home ministry, where he led many to Christ, sharing the gospel with kindness and unwavering belief.
Professionally, Keith worked for Johnson & Johnson in Sherman, Texas, until his retirement when the company closed. However, his true passion lay in his love for coon hunting, a hobby he cherished from a young age. He took great pride in having a good coon dog, often saying, "That dog is the real deal!" His enthusiasm for hunting was infectious, and he passed his love for the sport on to those around him.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Kathleen Mills, and his beloved wife of 49 years, Linda Mills.
He is survived by his three daughters: Tammi Mills and Randy Evans of Durant, OK, Kristi White and husband John of Durant, OK, and Rebeckah Flanagan and husband Kent of Sherman, TX. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Cody Mills (who he raised as a son) and wife Ileana, Kacey Ramos, Tony Ramos and wife Kaitlyn, Jordan Mills and wife Montana, and Samantha Clark and husband Keelan. Keith was also the proud great-grandfather of eight, Julian, Rylan, Tristan, Trinity, Kiera, Mia, Bowen and Tatum (who he affectionately called Tater).
Keith is also survived by his sister, Barbara Smith of Tyler, TX, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Vicki Mills of Durant, OK. His special friend Mary Garzee, who he met at Nanaw's Place.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Donna Buttrell, the owner of Nanaw's Assisted Living Place, and her dedicated team, including Bethany, Ashley, Joe, Brandy, Tammy, Jody and many others in Denison, for the exceptional care and love they provided to Keith in his final year. Their kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
Keith's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a man of great integrity, unwavering faith, and a love for life that touched everyone he encountered. His family takes comfort in knowing that Keith is now at peace and fully healed with his Lord, reunited with his beloved wife, Linda, and surrounded by the love of his Savior.
Family Night will be on Friday, April 11 from 6 to 8 pm at The Gordon Center located at 305 N. 2nd Avenue in Durant, OK.
A celebration of Keith's life will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 2pm at Bible Baptist Church in Durant, OK with Brother Mark Wesley and Pastor Frank Alegria officiating. A graveside service will follow at Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Mills, Cody Mills, Jordan Mills, Steve Dow, Eli Gonzalez and Larry Marksberry.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Nanaw's Place located at 1100 W. Munson Denison, TX in Keith's honor. Please come prepared to share a few words or a funny story about Keith!
Rest in peace, Keith Mills. Your love for God, family, and friends will never be forgotten.
