Lois Bro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan-King Mortuary & Crematory - Anderson on Dec. 16, 2025.
Artist, sculptor, doll maker and collector, wife, mother, grandmother, friend.....Lois played many roles throughout her 99 years and will be greatly missed.

Lois was born Lois Betty Green on August 11, 1926, to parents Hazel and Fred Green. She and her two brothers grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan. She married John E. (Jack) Bro in 1945; together they raised five children who survive her: Judy (Tim) Kline, Barbara (Larry) Geno, Susan (Roy) Swan, John Wayne (Sandy) Bro, and Marti (Jeff) Coplai. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Lois owned and managed a book store in Royal Oak while raising her children. In 1975, she went back to school and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan and began a new career as an artist. In 1985, Lois was awarded the Annual Artist in Residence Award by the Farmington Area Arts council. Lois and Jack moved to South Carolina from Michigan, living in Keowee Key, Boscobel Golf Course, and Clemson. After Jack passed away, she moved to Clemson Downs until moving to Dominion Senior Living in Anderson in 2023. Lois proved herself to be an accomplished artist: a painter, sculptor and doll maker. Lois was a founding member of the Greenville Doll and Toy Collector's Club and The Stuffitts- a group of doll makers who got together for fun and inspiration and to learn new skills. Lois won many awards for her work and was always looking for a new class to take to expand her skills and learn new techniques. Lois loved to travel and took several trips to Europe, sometimes for sightseeing, but also to take a painting class or two in a unique environment. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John Bro, in 2009. She was a member of the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Lois on December 29, 2025, at Dominion Senior Living of Anderson, 3461 North Highway 81, Anderson, SC from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Safe Harbor Greenville; Greenville Center for Creative Arts; or Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, Clemson.

It was always such a pleasure when Lois came in to Heirlooms and Comforts. The StuffIts would display their challenge pieces in the shop every year and they were just amazing. Lois was so talented and knowledgeable and creative. Quite an inspiration! I will always think of her every Christmas when I unpack the Santa that she made.
