Lois Jean (Uffelman) Hassinger passed away peacefully at her home in Jefferson City, Missouri on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Lois was born on Sunday, November 2, 1930, in Gasconade, Missouri to John Herman and Della Amelia (Lalk) Uffelman.
Lois was christened on November 1, 1931, at the Gasconade Union Church in Gasconade, Missouri. She followed her faith throughout her life serving in various roles and leading Women's Bible Study classes at the churches in the communities where she lived.
She graduated from Hermann High School in May 1948 and from the Evangelical Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri in May 1952. In December 1984 at the age of 54 Lois graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tarkio College in St. Louis.
Lois married James Milton Hassinger on October 8, 1955, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in St. Louis. Lois and Jim renewed their marriage vows on October 16, 2005, following their 50th wedding anniversary.
Focusing her nursing career on pediatrics, Lois worked at Deaconess Hospital and Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis. She began working in Labor and Delivery at Christian Hospital Northwest in St. Louis in 1968 where she retired on October 26, 1990, after 22 years of service. Lois was the Chairman of District VII NAACOG in 1992.
Lois was a woman of strong family values. She made lasting memories by planning annual family vacations throughout America and Canada. She was an avid genealogist, tracing the Uffelman family roots back to Germany to 1819 and the Hassinger family roots back to Germany to 1748. She was an accomplished quilter making numerous quilts. In 2019 she placed second in the Hand Quilting, Large Applique category at the QGI Quilt Show in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lois enjoyed gardening, planning spectacular gardens at her homes in St. Louis, Columbia, and Zionsville, Indiana.
She leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memory, a son, David Hassinger; daughters Rebecca Hassinger and Sara (Richard) Barnett; grandchildren, Megan Hassinger, Stephanie Niemeyer, Nicholas (Emily) Barnett, Jesse Hassinger, Crystal (Tony) Lein, Benjamin (Samantha) Barnett and Jonathan Hassinger; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Gerald) Riley, Janet Buscher and Judy Derks; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Della Uffelman, husband, James Hassinger, a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Ralph Jones, and a brother Roger Uffelman.
Visitation will be 3-4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City with the Nurses Honor Guard of Mid-Missouri ceremony at 4:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Trimble Funeral Homes-Jefferson City, with the Rev. Ross Dixon officiating.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville, IL at a future date.

The family is grateful to each of you for the visits, prayers, phone calls and the many acts of love and sympathy shown to us as we cared for Lois and during our time of sorrow in her passing. Whatever you did, to console our hearts, we thank you so much whatever the part.
