Lois Joyce Hegland

Lois Joyce Hegland of Hiles passed away on May 10, 2025, at her home while under
the care of Compassus Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was 98 years old.
"Joyce" was born on August 4, 1926, in Hartford, Wisconsin on the family farm. As a
child, she attended grades 1st thru 8th in a one room school house before graduating
from Hartford High School in 1944. After school, she moved with her family to Racine.
It was in Racine while attending Bethesda Lutheran Church she met her future
husband, Sigurd Hegland. The couple married on June 3, 1949. They celebrated over
62 years of marriage prior to Sigurd's passing in 2012. Joyce furthered her education
with an associates in clerical/bookkeeping. She worked many tax seasons assisting in
clerical duties helping others file yearly income taxes.
She and her husband were blessed with three children, Sonia, Peder and Daniel. She
raised her family in Racine and frequented northern Wisconsin, where they had
purchased a piece of land on Pine Lake, later building a cabin. Many weekends were
spent traveling north to the cabin with her young family.
Following her and Sigurd's retirement in 1989, they built their forever home on Pine
Lake. She enjoyed quilting, painting, sewing, knitting, rosemaling and basketmaking.
She also enjoyed birdwatching, and feeding wildlife in her yard. She had an inseparable
bond with her cat "Ole" and was a devout member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Joyce is survived by her children Sonia (John) Murnane, Peder (Marilyn Peitso)
Hegland, Dan Hegland; grandchildren, Sean Murnane, Tara (Tim) Kelly, Casey
Murnane, Hailey (Andy Voegtline) Hegland, Robyn (David Wett) Hegland, Matthew
(Nakami Green) Hegland; great grandchildren Logan, Esme, Lochlan, Silje, Finley,
Charles, Sigurd, Arlo and Calvin.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Sigurd T. Hegland.
A visitation will be held on May 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Weber-Hill &
Packard Funeral Home in Crandon. Burial will follow at the Hiles Township Cemetery.
