Lois was born in Columbus, NE on February 14, 1935.  She was the daughter of the late Herman and Elsie Brakenhoff.  Her first 10 years were spent on a farm north of Columbus where she attended St. John’s Lutheran School.  In l945 the family moved to Columbus where she attended Imanuel Lutheran School through 8th grade.  She was a graduate of Kramer High School in Columbus and attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE for 2 years.  She spent one year teaching 3rd grade in Sheboygan, WI and was married to Robert E. Holtz the following year.  In 1955 they moved to Albany, NY where Robert was called to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to establish a Lutheran grade school. Lois continued to substitute in the public schools.

In 1963 Bob and Lois and 3 children moved back to St. Paul, MN.  She attended classes at Concordia College in St. Paul, MN and received a B.A. in Education in 1966. She worked in the Montessori schools, and later received a teaching licensure in the area of Special Education-Learning Disabilities from St. Thomas College in St. Paul, MN.  In 1975 she joined the Roseville Schools as a Title I tutor, and later as a Special Education Teacher, retiring in 1993.   She enjoyed working with children and felt strongly that every child had the capacity to learn.  Her love for flowers, people, and family was also present. 

She is survived by her husband, Robert; 5 children, Debra, Joel, Tim (Gladys), Mike (Katie) and Jon (Ning Ning); along with 8 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 

Funeral service 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 22 at St. Stephanus Lutheran Church, 739 Lafond Ave., St. Paul.  Visitation from 10-11 AM Wednesday at the church.  Private interment Roselawn Cemetery.
