Lois Killebrew Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jackson Funeral Home - Frederick on Mar. 12, 2026.
Funeral services for Lois Lu Killebrew, age 90, of Tipton, Oklahoma, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Tipton Church of Christ, 201 North Broadway, Tipton, Oklahoma, with Ken Waugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Killebrew passed away Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.

Lois Lu (Lomax) Killebrew was born on August 4, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas, to Earl and Lois (Roberts) Lomax. She grew up in Sonora, Texas, where her dad, Earl Lomax, owned and operated a grocery store. Lois was an outdoor girl. In the summers, she loved spending time with her grandparents in the country where she spent her time mountain climbing, exploring, fishing, and swimming. She also had an old nag, whose name was Punkin. As Lois grew older, she acquired a love for music. She played the flute and a piccolo in her high school band. She attended college at Abilene Christian College where she majored in music and played in the college band and orchestra.

At the end of Lois freshman year, she met Sam Killebrew. Their friendship blossomed and this courtship extended through the first semester of her sophomore year. They were engaged on December 25, 1954, and were united in marriage on June 3, 1955, in Abilene, Texas. Lois's interest in college became a thing of the past, as she assumed the role of a housewife and mother. They had two beautiful daughters, Susan Kay and Mary Jane. Mary Jane passed away at the age of three years old. Sam and Lois lived in Abilene, Texas, for six years until they bought the Hubble Grocery in Tipton, Oklahoma. The store opened on April 1, 1961, Lois spent every waking moment on establishing a very successful business and career. They sold the business in 1991. Lois and Sam hosted bus trips throughout their retirement. Her love for the outdoors and camping never diminished. Hosting coffee with friends each afternoon was one of her great joys. She was a member of the Tipton Church of Christ.

Lois is survived by her husband: Sam Killebrew; daughter: Susan Kay Haynie of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; one grandson: Brandon Haynie and his wife Rebekah of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and their two children: Sutton Jo and Deacon; and one granddaughter: Brooke Lemmons and her husband Jonathan of Edmond, Oklahoma, with their three children: Callan, Tatum, and Maisie.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Earl and Lois Lomax; one daughter: Mary Jane Killebrew; and one son-in-law: Barry Haynie.
