Fay began her career as a nurse in DeQueen, Arkansas, later serving patients in Herrin and Charleston, IL, where her compassion touched countless lives. Beyond nursing, she also built a career in banking – first in Oklahoma City, and later at Du Quoin State Bank in Tamaroa.
Fay was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Marion.
Fay was born June 27, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK to Raymond Louis & Jettie Lois (Wright) Pool.
Fay married Duane E. Maaks on March 22, 1969 in New Holland, IL.
She is survived by her husband, Duane Maaks of Carterville, IL; son, Jeffrey Maaks of Marion, IL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer & Donny Wade of Herrin, IL and Jill & Brandon Vaughn of Fairview Heights, IL; five grandchildren, Danielle Maaks, Dylan Green, Cameron Thrapp, Hannah Thrapp, and Chandler Vaughn; twin brother and sister-in-law, Louis Ray & Chris Pool of Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Fay will be remembered for her quick wit, her wonderful sense of humor, and above all, the immense love she shared so freely with her friends and family.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 1801 Westminster Drive, Marion, IL with Rev. Mark Surburg officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin, IL.
