Lois McNitt passed away early Tuesday morning in Tallahassee, Florida. She was 95 years old when she went to be with the Lord. Her life was filled with everything she loved: family, friends, and a little bit of crafting along the way.
Lois was born to Roy and Elma Adams in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1929. Lois was an only child and was adored by her parents. In 1948, Lois met Gene McNitt, the love of her life. For many years, they moved their family from one Marine base to another, Oklahoma, Arizona, Hawaii to California, and made memories along the way.
Lois and Gene have three children: Roger (wife Patti), Terri (husband Craig) and Janet (husband Gil). They raised their children to be honest, take care of one another, and be resilient and strong.
If there was anything Lois loved more than her children, it was being a grandmother of 8. She would tell anyone and everyone, strangers and friends alike, all about her beloved grandchildren. When they were little, she would sit on the floor with them and make them close their eyes and tickle them in to make them squirm. When they were older, there were road trips, hot dog sandwiches, card games, and graduations, all of which were times that she poured her love into her grandkids. Trips to Roaring River, Arkansas were a time for all of her family to be together.
As Lois got older, her joy spread to loving on her 19 great grandchildren. She sent them birthday cards right up until the last few years of her life.
Lois did not like idle time, so she was always filling afternoons with some of her favorite hobbies, which included line dancing, painting, counted cross stitch, t-shirt painting, and wood carving. The only time she wasn't into one of her many crafts was when Days of our Lives was on. She loved a scratch off lottery ticket and a good Chinese buffet too! She was always working on a collection, owls or gnomes to be specific.
In recent years, Lois could no longer hear well or remember details about day-to-day happenings of life. Her memories began to fade, but her love never did.
This is evident in her last collection the one that surrounded her toward the end of her life the pictures of her loving family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are her legacy, her masterpiece.
Kelly Barber and Niki Carney of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) are assisting the McNitt family with their arrangements.
