Lois Meyer Obituary

Lois Ann Meyer
Born: April 8, 1937 in Joliet, IL
Died: June 4, 2025 in New Lenox, IL
The family of Lois Ann Meyer (nee Fuerst) is saddened to announce her peaceful passing at the age of 88. Lois lived in New Lenox all of her adult life.
Lois began her career in 1958 teaching 5th grade. After her first year of teaching, she stayed home to raise her two daughters. She taught pre-school at Building Block Day Care Center for more than two decades. Because she was passionate about helping young people to grow and learn, she started a 4-H club in the late 1960's and was a passionate leader for her young 4-hers for over twenty years. Lois was also a volunteer in the New Lenox schools, was a lifelong member of her church circle, served on the United Methodist Church of New Lenox building committee, on the care team, altar guild and sang in the church choir for over 40 years. Lois started a dulcimer group at church witness through song to nursing home residents. Lois was ardent in her belief in recognizing those whom she thought deserved recognition and shared warm words, cards and notes with many of her church family and friends. Lois loved music which was evident in all parts of her life. She enjoyed traveling every year to dulcimer festivals in the south, she sang in a trio with her daughters where they entertained seniors and others at banquets and celebrations. Even in her last days, she awoke from sleep singing.
Lois is survived by John Meyer, her loving husband of 67 years; her daughters: Vivian Van Donk; Carol (Donald) Schirmer; granddaughters: Jessica (Jeffrey) Jackson; Emma (Meelad) Alsawadi; and Violet Van Donk; great grandchildren: Kaleb Schirmer; Kohen Schirmer; Rosalie Jackson, Ivy Jackson, Lola Jackson and Laith Alsawadi; her sister-in-law: Patricia Fuerst and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of New Lenox on Monday June 16, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the United Methodist Church of New Lenox music fund or Lightways Hospice.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lois. I sang in the church choir with her and her family for many years, and Vivian and I sang together in a community choir. I have no doubt how much she will be missed. Love and hugs to the family.
