Lois Morkert

Lois Morkert, 79, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Sunday July 27, 2025, at Gass Haney Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at the Schuyler Cemetery in Schuyler, Nebraska, on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 1 p.m.
Lois was born on March 28, 1946, to Henry and Esther (Otto) Sila at home in Bancroft, Nebraska. She graduated from Beemer High School in 1965.
Lois and her husband, Truman, were united in marriage on June 3, 1967. Lois and Truman settled and farmed alongside her father-in-law in the Linwood and Octavia, Nebraska area. After they moved to Octavia in 1973, Lois was a homemaker as well as working at Wagner Mills in Schuyler, janitor at the Octavia school, David City Manufacturing, Becton-Dickinson and Didier's Grocery in Schuyler.
Lois enjoyed holidays and get-togethers with her family. She also enjoyed her cats, playing Bingo, reading books, watching scary movies and her trips to the casino.
After years of a long illness, Lois was eventually moved to Brookstone Acres in 2024.
Lois is survived by her son, Gene (Kristin) Morkert of Meridian, Idaho; daughter, Melinda Oshel of Columbus; and companion, John Bixenmann; daughter, Kay (Chad) McKay of Osceola, Nebraska; grandson, Brandon (Ashley) Shatto of Columbus; great-grandson, Weston Shatto; great-granddaughter, RaeLynn Shatto; great-grandson, Mason Shatto; grandson, Noah (Tasha) Nelson of Octavia; grandson, Hunter Oshel of Columbus; granddaughter, Hailey Oshel of Lincoln, Nebraska; granddaughters, Madison and Makenzie Morkert of Meridian; stepgrandson, Jack McKay of David City, Nebraska; stepgranddaughter, Brianna (Josh) Keller of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law, Betty Sila of Papillion, Nebraska; and brother-in-law, Dan (Gilda) Morkert of Underwood, Iowa.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Morkert; daughter, Trixy Marie Morkert; parents, Henry and Esther Sila; stepmom: Lillian Sila; twin sister, Lola Freeman; brother, Larry Sila; in-laws, Carroll and Vera Morkert; sister-in-law, Judy (Mike) Marohn; and brother-in-law, Doug (Audrey) Morkert.
