Lois Tuttle Spurney, beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, at the age of 88.
Born on November 17, 1935, in Manlius, New York, Lois was the daughter of James Paul and Grace Soule Tuttle. She pursued her education at Cornell University College of Human Ecology, graduating with a BS in 1958. On April 25, 1959, she married Petr Logan Spurney in Dewitt, New York.
Lois's life was dedicated to her family and community. As a devoted spouse and mother, she brought love, warmth, and wisdom into the lives of her husband, four children, and three grandchildren. She traveled the world with Petr and her family, living in London and Paris and later moving to multiple cities in the U.S. where she and Petr hosted major international events including the American Freedom Train in 1976, the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY, and World's Fairs in Spokane, WA and New Orleans, LA. She put her experiences as a world traveler to use working for many years as a travel agent where she brought her enthusiasm and appreciation for new experiences. She was a longtime resident in Chevy Chase, MD and served as program manager at the Friendship Heights Community Center in Friendship Heights, MD, bringing that same energy to all the members of her community with dedication and compassion. She retired to Rehoboth Beach in 2009.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Petr Logan Spurney; her children, Kathleen Morley Spurney, Jonathan Sloan Spurney, Petr Logan Spurney Junior, and Christopher Fore Spurney, MD; daughter-in-law Sian Leela Spurney, MD; grandchildren, Megan Anne Spurney, Nicholas Clason Spurney, and Gracie Leela Spurney; and her cherished goldendoodle, Pascale. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Paul and Grace Soule Tuttle.
Lois Tuttle Spurney will be fondly remembered for her kindness, grace, humor, and unwavering love for her family and community. Her legacy of compassion and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
