Lois C. Vowels

Lois C. (Braun) Vowels, 91, of Atchison, KS, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Vintage Park Assisted Living, Atchison, KS.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a brief visitation from 10:15 to 11:00 AM beforehand. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church for Funeral Dinners or Trinity Lutheran Church for Quilting group and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Lois was born on October 5, 1934, in Atchison, KS, to Martin and Augusta Braun and was welcomed home by big brother Glenn. She attended Atchison Schools. She married Charles "Cud" Vowels shortly after graduation. Eventually moving to Gallatin, MO, and then Bethany, MO, until Cud's untimely death in 1968. She moved with her son Mark back to Atchison, where she lived in her childhood home until eventually moving into assisted living four years ago. She worked for over twenty-seven years at Atchison Job Service for the State, until her early retirement. She loved to bowl and went to state tournaments often with her teams and friends. She was known to be able to take fifty dollars to a Vegas bowling trip, pay for everything involved and somehow come back with seventy-five dollars. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was involved with several church related groups, her favorite were the ladies who cooked for funerals, and a quilting group that sent numerous things overseas. She spent lots of time watching her grandkids and was very proud of their accomplishments so far in life.

Lois is survived by her son, Mark Vowels (Maechelle Myers) of Atchison; daughter-in-law, Kelly Vowels of Atchison; three grandchildren: Makinzie and Eric Burghart, Atchison; Beau and Beba Vowels, Mission Viejo, CA; Tate Vowels and Abigail Schmitz, Overland Park, KS; and six great-grandchildren: Rocco Vowels, Hallie Jo, Jack, Richard, Maria, and Luke Burghart.
