Lola Marie Rookstool, 84, of Meadow Bridge passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Rainelle Healthcare Center following a long illness. Lola was born on July 22, 1940, in Meadow Bridge to the late Ray William Rookstool and Goldie Marie (Walkup) Rookstool of Meadow Bridge.
She loved the Lord, enjoyed her garden and being outside, and she loved her family with her whole heart. Lola was a loyal friend and would offer help to anyone in need. Lola was strong, tenacious, and fierce. She possessed a fire and work ethic that would lure her to become the first female coal miner for the Sewell Coal Company.
In addition to her mother and father, she is preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, William Clyde Rookstool, Sr and Janet Gail Rookstool and her nephew William (Bill) Clyde Rookstool, Jr as well as great-nieces Jennifer Rookstool and Melissa Baker Tabasinske.
Left to mourn her passing; her three nephews, Dr. Robert J. Rookstool (Laura) of Langley, Washington, David K. Rookstool (Melissa) of King, North Carolina, and Thomas A. Rookstool of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; 20 great nieces and nephews, Brian Baker (Lena), William C. Rookstool III, Darcy Rookstool, Caitlyn Chaires (Austin), Amanda Assante (Anthony), Kevin Rookstool (Jamie), Emily Kennedy (Joseph), Kelsey Rookstool, Katie Kennedy (Michael), Amber Rookstool, Abigail Ratterman (Paul), Grace Rookstool, Adeline Rookstool, Luke Rookstool (Philomena), Olivia Rookstool, Isabelle Rookstool, Ava Rookstool, Jonathan Rookstool, Owen Rookstool, and Eli Rookstool; nineteen great-great nieces and nephews, Brynna, Sasha, Nina, Finn, Mila, Luka, Flora, Ambrose, Peggy, Leo, Hugo, Ant, Charlotte, Reagan, Luke, Owen, Levi, Aly, and Louella.
Lola's generosity and strength have been an inspiration to her family and many others during her lifetime and will continue to be so even after her passing. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Rainelle Healthcare Center staff for their yearslong compassionate care of Lola during her extended illness.
Services for Lola will be 12:00p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Smathers Funeral Chapel in
Rainelle, West Virginia with Pastor Jim Groves officiating. Burial will follow at the End of the Trail Cemetery, Clintonville, West Virginia.
Friends may call on the family at 11:00a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Funeral Chapel.
