Lonnie Eugene Edwards (aka Rock) was born to Willie Edwards and Jacqueline Edwards-Latham in Battle Creek, Michigan, on September 24, 1957.
He attended Battle Creek Central High School and graduated in 1975. After high school, he bravely enlisted in the United States Army. He later earned a degree in Automotive Technology from Kellogg Community College and went on to dedicate more than 25 years of service as a mechanic with Battle Creek Transit.
Lonnie had a true love for his children and family. He enjoyed working out, playing sports, and especially loved basketball, where he refereed for more than 35 years. He also found joy in working on and restoring cars. You could always count on Lonnie to lend a helping hand and share a warm smile.
On September 3, 2025, Lonnie entered into eternal life. He is now reunited with his father, Willie Edwards; son, Lonnie Edwards II; sisters, Janet Edwards and Patricia Griffis; and his brother, Larry Edwards. He is survived by his mother, Jacqueline (Joel) Latham; children, Gloria Daniel (Daminga Smith), Diana (Lemoyne) Turner (Jacqueline Dixon), and Christopher Edwards, Moriah Edwards, and Jordan Edwards (Christrina Edwards-Gray); brothers, Michael Edwards, Tyrone Edwards, and Willie Edwards Jr. (MN); sisters, Wilma Edwards, Jayne (Earl) Atchison, Tammi (Albert) Cook (IN), Jackie (Kelly) Evans (AZ), Sabrina Edwards (MN), and Roena Sawyer (TN); grandchildren, Amarí Flemons and Omarr Flemons; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Alexander, and Kyland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Lonnie will be remembered for the love, joy, and positive energy he brought to the lives of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace and live on through the memories in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, followed by interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
