Funeral service for Lonnie Kenneth Thacker, age 72, of
Gadsden, Alabama will be held 2:00pm Monday, February 24, 2025 at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home with Rev. David Williams officiating the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00pm until time of service. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Thacker passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family-his son Kenneth, daughter Terri, and daughter-in-law Kayla.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Thacker; parents, George and Mattie Thacker; sisters, Billie Sitz, Alice Toney; brothers, Tommy Thacker, Jimmy Thacker, Johnny Thacker, and Benny Thacker; and step-daughter, Bridgette Smith.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, JoAnn Thacker; daughter, Terri Burton; sons, Kenneth Thacker (Kayla), Chain Thacker; step-son, Brodney Myers (Lauren); grandchildren, Grant, Kenlee, Issac, and Clara Burton, Kaleb Thacker, Memphis Myers, Sharee Richardson-Ray, Joseph Curtis, Ashland, Will, and Brileigh Smith; special grandchildren, Charlotte and Jackson Smith; great-grandchildren, Gracie Curtis, Tri'Koria Richardson-Ray, and Tri'Koris Richardson-Ray Jr.; sisters, Rita Carmack, Anita Quinlivan, and Margaret Biggham; brothers, Bobby Thacker, and Eddie Thacker.
Born on March 29, 1952, Lonnie lived a life rich with love, generosity, and service to his community. For 40 years, Lonnie was the proud owner of L&K Auto Parts, where he not only provided quality parts but also offered them freely to those in need. His heart for others was unmatched, and his kindness touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. Whether it was lending a helping hand to a neighbor or giving someone a part for free, Lonnie's generosity knew no bounds. Known for his vibrant personality, Lonnie was a beloved "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren. He was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, especially his children and grandchildren. He also cherished his friendships, frequently gathering with friends to play cards, and he was a passionate supporter of Alabama football. Lonnie was known for his tenacity and competitive spirit, particularly in the annual demolition derby, where he would emerge victorious year after year. He also enjoyed racing cars, playing cards, and telling you like it was. His love for the outdoors was also evident in his love for deer hunting, a tradition that brought him peace and joy. Lonnie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and selflessness. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Pallbearers will be Antonio Huntley, Grant Burton, Kaleb Thacker, Sherman Gray, David Witmore, and David Williams.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Davis, Sammy Foster, EB Ogle, Benny Buice, and Charlie Lipscomb.
