Lonnie Ben Thornton, 79, of Gordonville, Texas was called to his eternal home in heaven on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Lonnie was born to Monroe and Lucille Thornton. He was a graduate of Archer City High School. He was a member of the Chapel at Sherwood Shores, where he served as a deacon and the treasurer for the church. Lonnie loved to do the Lord's work in life, sharing to everyone about the salvation of Jesus. He was a jack of all trades at the church. He enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks play ball. Lonnie loved his family and cherished each moment with them.
He is survived by his wife, Lora Lee Thornton at Sherwood Shores; son, David Carter and wife, Lisa of Eufaula, OK; and son, Michael Carter and wife, Jessica of Sherwood Shores, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Lucille Thornton, and sister, Nell Vieth.
Funeral services honoring Lonnie will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August, 14, 2025 at Sherwood Shores, officiated by pastor Bobby Baker. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
