Loren "Larry" Nish

Loren "Larry" James Nish, son of John Hamilton and Hazel (Howell) Nish was born March 11, 1929, on the family farm in rural Weldon, Iowa and passed from this life Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home near Weldon at 95 years of age.
Larry grew up on the farm near Weldon, attended Weldon school and graduated with the Class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Army in Ft. Riley, served 18 months in Korea and then 12 months at Ft. Hood in Texas. Larry was united in marriage to Letha Mae Ellis on April 19, 1953, at the Smyrna Friends Church.
In 1993, by God's grace, he gave his life to Jesus, became a Christian, and was baptized. Larry was a member of the Weldon Christian Church.
Larry was a farmer and cattleman, and he loved everything about tending to his farm and being a steward of the land. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, and he owned and operated a Century Farm that has been in the Nish family 147 years.
He was a family man and enjoyed the many activities of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He spent countless hours playing catch with his sons, none of whom could match his running left hook on the basketball court.
Those relatives who preceded Larry in death were his parents John and Hazel Nish; sisters Carol Nish and Sara (Merle) Stoney; brother Jack (Margie) Nish; in-laws Ollie & Gerda Ellis; and granddaughter Marielle Nish.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 71 years, Letha Nish of Weldon, IA; son John (Joy) Nish of Norwalk, IA; son Kurt (Diane) Nish of Murray, IA; son Sam (Julie) Ellis of Rochester, MN; son Martin (Anita) Nish of Olathe, KS; sister-in-law Linda (Michael) Newell of Santee, CA; grandchildren Jacky (Chris) Lucas, Derek Nish, Curtis (Jessica) Nish, Vicky Nish, Hannah Nish, Riley Ellis, John L (Hailey) Nish, Rachel Nish, Kenny (Katie) Boles, Kendra Boles, Daniel Nish, and Karis Nish; 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of his life service will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Friday March 7, 2025 at 10:00 am with Pastor Todd Carroll and Pastor Jim Lane officiating.
Larry's family will greet friends prior to the service from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Friday.

Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery
