Lorence Frederick Stumpe was born on June 8, 1930 to Ervin and Alwine (Iburg) Stumpe in Hooper, Nebraska. He graduated from Scribner High School in 1948 and then attended business college in Omaha. In the following years he worked for the Illinois Central railroad and farmed in west central Iowa. He moved to St. Ansgar, Iowa and started in farm implement parts sales, the career that he continued in throughout his life. He worked for implement dealers in Osage and Mason City, Iowa before moving to Dallas, Oregon. Eventually, after retiring, he moved back to Scribner where he was even elected to a term as Mayor. As his health began to fail, he relocated to Prior Lake, Minnesota in 2023. He was received into the arms of his Savior on September 3, 2025 at the age of 95.

Lorence was an accomplished mechanic, having rebuilt motors and painted some of his favorite Studebaker automobiles. He was also very family oriented, making several solo, non-stop drives from the western coast of Oregon back to Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin to visit his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Bernard and son, Todd.

He is survived by sons Kevin (Marie) Stumpe and Philip (Karen) Stumpe, grandchildren Elise (Joseph) Rasmusssen, Amanda (Nate) Kaiser, Allison (Sam) Padelford, Marissa Stumpe, Emma Stumpe , Alex Stumpe , his younger brother Marvin (Karen) Stumpe, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous step-sons and step-daughters.
