She is predeceased by her brothers Melvin and Robert Uncapher and Phillip in infancy, as well as nephews; Phillip Uncapher, Steven Scheiber, and John Taylor Jr.
Loretta was a very blunt, 'tell it like it is' woman, and to know her was to love her for that. She wasn't afraid of speaking her mind – and always had people laughing at the outlandish things that came out of her mouth. She loved fishing, reading and creating color by numbers on her cell phone. She was a jokester – she loved playing jokes on people – and telling jokes to anyone who would listen. It's no wonder that one of her favorite things was taking her girls trick or treating when they were young. She was a packrat – she collected Native American trinkets and anything with wolves. She was sentimental and kept everything that everyone gave her. She could not easily be talked out of getting rid of anything and was even forced to move once because she refused to clear out her apartment.
She loved her family more than life itself and would have done absolutely anything for just about anyone – as long as you didn't cross her. She loved every minute she got to spend with her grands and great grands – they helped her to feel young again despite her declining health. She was the best Grammy, MeMaw, and MayMay EVER!
Loretta fought her illnesses for far too many years – tethered to her oxygen machine – but not afraid to light up a smoke if she so pleased. She went through all the treatments, took all the medications, and listened to all the doctors – because she wanted as much time with her family as she could get. She built great relationships with her medical team and the Family would like to thank several people who have taken care of her over the years. Dr. Rory Sears and staff of Pulmonary Associates of Northern NY. You were so kind, loving, and understanding. We can never thank you enough for your professionalism at all times! Dr. Justin Budnik and staff of Radiation Oncology for having the patience and understanding with Mom because of her claustrophobia while trying to get her radiation treatments for lung cancer. Also sneaking her ice cream (LOL)! And last but not least - Doctor Jon Emerton and staff -for the last 23 yrs you have taken great care of our mom. You, Doc have been a confidant and friend. Mom cared greatly for you, like family, and grew to love you as a doctor but more importantly as a friend!
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 16th at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.
