Loretta Eichstaedt, 95, formerly of Southampton, MA, passed away peacefully on October 3rd under the loving care of the Springside Skilled Care Nursing facility in Pittsfield, MA. Loretta, born in Northampton on April 19th, 1929, was the daughter of Frank and Magdalena ( Kowalski) Twarog. She attended local schools and graduated from the former Northampton Commercial College. Her career, which included several management-level positions at the former Colonial Hilton and Smith College in Northampton, was a testament to her professional prowess. Her role as the inaugural director of the Council of Aging in Southampton, MA, truly defined her. Her outstanding work and dedication were recognized when she was named Citizen of the Year in 2006, a testament to her significant impact on the community.
Loretta was adored and respected by family, friends, and community members for her intelligence, insight, and warm, caring character, always presented with humor and humility. She dedicated her life to her four boys, beloved stepdaughter, and grandchildren, showing her pets the same love and care. Her love for her family was unwavering, and she enjoyed sharing their joys and supporting them in their endeavors. She enjoyed camping, family beach trips, and global cruises with her beloved husband, Herman. Her pride in her son's and grandchildren's various sporting events and activities was palpable. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society and a devoted member of St Peter's Lutheran Church in Holyoke, MA.
A large and loving family survives Loretta. Her sons Karl (Angsara) Eichstaedt, Herman (Linda) Eichstaedt, Leonard (Carol) Eichstaedt, all of Southampton, MA, David (Sara) Eichstaedt of Southwick, MA, and stepdaughter Karen (Nancy) Eichstaedt of Hamden, CT. Her grandchildren also survive her: Joseph (Alyssa) Eichstaedt of San Jose, CA, Jake (Marissa) Devine of West Suffield, CT, Brianna ( Kevin) Dupras of Westhampton, MA, Davis (fiancé Mary) Eichstaedt of Providence, RI, Andrew Eichstaedt of Southwick, MA, step-grandchildren Liza (Owen) Ouimet of Cummington, MA, Tom ( fiancé Allison) Powers of Worthington, MA, and Lilli Powers of Southampton, MA. She is also lovingly survived by her great-grandson Beckett Dupras of Westhampton, MA, and step-great-grandchildren Hunter and Violet Ouimet of Cummington, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Loretta was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herman, as well as her brothers George (Edie), Francis (Sandy), and Joseph Twarog, as well as sisters Agnes (Bill) Cook, Mary (Louie) Pellesier, Helen (David) Ward, Toni (Alphonse) Zdaniewicz, and Patricia (Clarence) Bushey. She was also pre-deceased by a beloved angel, great-grandson Joseph Devine, many nieces, and nephews. Finally, the one she still remembers in the end is her beloved dog and sidekick, Mugsy.
