Loretta Flagel

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Loretta Stanerson Flagel, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, on August 21, 2024, in Wausau, WI. Loretta was born on March 4, 1935, in Des Moines, IA, to Bradford and Kathryn Stanerson. 

Throughout her life, she was known for her kind and caring nature, as well as her love for creating greeting cards, sewing for her loved ones, gardening, and baking. Loretta was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in caring for her family and those around her. She was also a valued participant in the Bible study at a correctional institute, alongside her husband, for an impressive 15 years, where she shared her faith and warmth with others. Having earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia, Loretta was a nurturing soul who touched the lives of many. She resided in various locations throughout her life, including Madison, Marshfield, Rib Lake, Merrill, and the Village Coop in Wausau, where she made lasting friendships and left a positive impact. When health issues required her to spend time at Sylvan Crossings, Mountain Terrace and Mount View Care Center, she continued in building deep friendships and touching lives in the positive ways.

Loretta is survived by her loving children Lynn Stuve, Ron Flagel, Kathy Fahl, and Laura Peterson, as well as her unofficially adopted son, Bill Raeder and brother Ron Stanerson. She will forever be remembered by her 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way.   Loretta is further survived many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arnold, parents, a sister Linda, and daughter-in-law Ruth. 

A visitation to celebrate Loretta's life was held Wednesday, August 28, Highland Community Church. She joined her husband at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner on Thursday, August 29th.  Brainard Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Monetary donations made in Loretta’s name to Highland Memorial Church will be used for the Grapevine Card Ministry to purchase stamps. 

In honor of Loretta's remarkable life, let us come together to remember her kind spirit, unwavering love, and the countless lives she touched with her compassion. She will be deeply missed but forever treasured in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace.
