Loretta Piazza Genco

Loretta, age 82, passed on Friday, March 13, 2026, at home, surrounded by her family. She enjoyed life most when she was cooking her famous red gravy, making Italian cookies to share, playing any slot machine she could find, and spending time with the friends and family who she loved more than anything. She found joy in bringing people together, and her warmth and generosity touched everyone she met. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Loretta never knew a stranger. Although her passing leaves a space in our hearts that can never truly be filled, the love, traditions, faith, laughter, meals, and memories she shared will remain with her family and friends forever.

Loretta is survived by her son, Ron Genco (Lisa); daughter, Mary Parker (Chuck); brothers, Fred Piazza (Dolly), and John Piazza; and her beloved grandchildren, Michael, Jayce (Kendall), Kyleigh, and Gabbie. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Moughnay Piazza, and her sister, Juanita Gaudet.

The family would like to thank everyone who loved and cared for Loretta, and extend their heartfelt gratitude to the UF Health System, Haven Hospice, Guardian Home Care, and Dave and Maureen Quinn.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation from the Chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 West Hammond, LA. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place starting promptly at 12:00 p.m. at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence, LA. with interment to follow in Colonial Cemetery.
