Loretta Newton Henry, 72, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11 am at St. John Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Griffin Mortuary. Loretta Newton Henry was born in Lubbock, Texas on May 25, 1953 to Henry Newton and Loressie King. She was a baker at Furr’s Cafeteria and Luby’s. She worked for the school system in the cafeteria. She was retired and loved playing bingo.
Loretta married Jessie Lee Henry on May 22, 1995. Loretta grew up and stayed in Lubbock. She went to school at Martin Elementary, Alderson Jr. High School, and Estacado High School, where she completed school and went to college.
Loretta is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Loressie Newton, her grandson Rytshekeil Green, her great grandsons DaShundrick Morrison and Marshundrick Morrison, and her sister Delores Brightman
Loretta is survived by her husband Jessie Lee Henry, her daughter Renita James (Greg Sawyers), her stepdaughter Angela Turner, her son Timothy Newton, her nephew LeRoy Newton (Micheline) of Santa Monica, CA that she raised as a son, her sister Ruby Gilbert of Long Beach CA, her brothers Ray Newton (Beatrice Hopkins) and Roy Newton (Annie Williams) both of Lubbock, TX, her granddaughters Selena Floris and Shanecqua Newton (Marshundrick Morrison) both of Lubbock TX, great granddaughters My’Shanta Newton of Austin TX, and Zakiyaa Newton, her grandsons Ken’Mari Thompson and Za’Marrian Morrison, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
