Loretta Muldowney, affectionately known as "Mam" to her cherished family and friends, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Brick, New Jersey, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Born on December 7, 1932, in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania, Loretta's vibrant spirit and boundless love touched the lives of all who knew her throughout her 92 years.
Loretta's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her passion for helping others, and her infectious sense of humor. She was the beloved wife of the late James Muldowney, her best friend and life partner for 58 years. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and an open door to all. Her legacy continues through her loving daughter Lori Vasquez of Toms River, her son Michael and his wife Jackie Muldowney of Myrtle Beach, and her caring daughter-in-law Ann Muldowney of North Brunswick. She was predeceased by her cherished son Jim Muldowney and her brothers Michael and Nicholas Fantanarosa.
Mam's life was a testament to the strength of maternal love. She was a pillar of support and a source of endless encouragement to her grandchildren; Joseph and his wife Casey, Vincent and his wife Monica, Anthony and Marylynn, Nicholas, Brandon, and Robert, Michael, Brian and his wife Brittany, and Melissa. The light of her life shone brightly on her great-grandchildren, Juliana, Calogero, River, Ellis, Niah, and Farrah, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Professionally, Loretta's compassion and desire to make a difference led her to a fulfilling career as a Job Coach with Easter Seals, where she advocated for individuals with disabilities and special needs. Her entrepreneurial spirit later inspired her to start her own cleaning company, based out of Avon by the Sea, which she managed with the same care and integrity that she devoted to every aspect of her life.
Loretta's interests and talents were as diverse as they were rich. She was renowned for her culinary prowess, especially her ability to cook and bake, turning every meal into a celebration of togetherness. Her home was the heart of holidays and gatherings, where she loved to entertain her family with over-the-top festivities and her famous cookies. She also had an incredible passion for fashion and interior design, always curating elegant spaces and effortlessly showcasing her impeccable sense of style. Whether through her home decor or her personal wardrobe, Loretta expressed herself with creativity and grace, inspiring those around her with her keen eye for beauty.
Music and dance were sources of great joy for Loretta; she relished the opportunity to attend concerts and dance the night away. Above all, Loretta's greatest pleasure was keeping everybody around her laughing, ensuring that her home was filled with happiness and humor.
Those who knew Loretta will remember her as the embodiment of love, humor, and selflessness. Her presence was a comforting embrace, her words a fountain of wisdom, and her laughter a melody that resonated in the hearts of many. Loretta approached life with an open heart, and in doing so, she taught those around her the importance of kindness, the value of family, and the unparalleled joy of a life well-lived.
Loretta's life was a beautiful mosaic of moments spent nurturing her family, serving her community, and spreading joy. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. Mam's memory will forever be cherished, and her lessons of love and laughter will continue to inspire generations to come.
Loretta Muldowney's life was not just a journey through time, but a journey into the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She has left an indelible mark on this world, a legacy of love that will never fade. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the beautiful life she lived. Rest in peace, dear Mam, until we meet again.

I´m sorry to hear the passing of my next door neighbor and wonderful Mom, grandmother and pillar of strength! I heard of Loretta´s passing but couldn´t attend her funeral. But thoughts of her have entered my mind as well as fun memories and the vision of her since my childhood days came rushing in my mind. I remember her as a crossing guard and my ride to EHS and many events, in your pool in the back yard, all during my formidable years! I´d come knocking on the door to see if Mike ( her son) could come out to play! She´d smile and call him. She always had an optimistic view in life and had high energy! I know her daughter Lori and son Mike will miss her presence, but her heart and soul are in you all and you will carry her in your hearts! Myself and my family give our deepest condolences and sympathy in such tough times as you all suffered much this last year. Keep your faith and Let your hearts keep her close to you. Sorrow will be replaced with happy memories over time. God bless her and her whole family!
