Dateline: Wilton, NY

Loretta C. Peavey, age 95, died peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Home of the Good Shepherd, with her loving family by her side. Loretta was born on March 16, 1930, in Queens, NY and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Miriam (Yohannan) Kamber. She led a long life filled with love, kindness, compassion, grace, and humor. There is nothing she liked more than a good laugh.

Loretta is survived by her loving daughters Sarah (Phil) Carvalho and Deborah (Daniel) Graves; and her cherished grandchildren Alison Carvalho, Eric Graves, and Finn Graves. There was nothing that brought her more joy than hosting her daughters' families and being a wonderful grandma (Grammie) to her three amazing grandchildren. She enjoyed every one of her grandchildren's milestones and holiday celebrations with extended family. Grandma could always be counted on for a wanted gift at birthdays and Christmas.

Loretta earned her bachelor's in Spanish from Queens College and then attended The Katherine Gibbs School. Following her education she worked at General Electric. In 1953, she married Clayton D. Peavey and had three children. The family moved to Port Washington, where she lived for 34 years and was active in the public school system and the Roslyn Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon. When her children went to college, she reentered the job market and worked at a number of places, ending her career at the Citibank Investment Banking Division in Manhattan. After retiring, Loretta relocated to Saratoga Springs.

Loretta was an active member of the Presbyterian-United Church of Christ where she enjoyed friendships and participated in many church activities. She loved the Victorian charm of Saratoga Springs and enjoyed the community and opportunities to attend the ballet and orchestra at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. During the summer, she and her neighbors would enjoy cocktails in their circle.

In addition to her parents, Loretta is preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Peavey, and brother, Seth S. Kamber.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Presbyterian-United Church of Christ, 24 Circular St, Saratoga Springs, NY. The family will be available to greet attendees at the church starting at 1:00 p.m. The service will be followed by a reception.

Interment will be held privately at St. Michael's Cemetery in Queens, NY at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Wilton for their many years of loving care, Community Hospice of Saratoga for their care and support over the last several months as well as the long-term support of the Senior Care Team at Presbyterian-United Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Presbyterian-United Church of Christ, Home of the Good Shepherd, 60 Waller Rd, Gansevoort, NY 12831 or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
