Loretta L. Spilger, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at her home near Atalissa, surrounded by her family.
Private family services will be held, with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Atalissa Fire Department or Iowa City Hospice in honor of Loretta.
Loretta was born on August 26, 1930, in Tiffin, Iowa, the daughter of August and Opal Mae (Pirtle) Volkman. She graduated from Oxford High School. She was united in marriage to Leland Spilger on November 22, 1955, in Iowa City. Loretta was employed for 23 years at Moore Business Forms in Iowa City.
She was an active and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atalissa., She enjoyed gardening, completing word searches, and playing marbles and cards with loved ones and friends.
She is survived by her two children, Daniel (Melissa) Spilger and Timothy Spilger, both of Atalissa; four grandchildren, Christopher, Lydia, Jennifer, and Katheryn; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill Volkman and Don Volkman. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leland in 2020, her son David in 2024, and six siblings.
