Loretta Watts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary, LA on Dec. 19, 2025.
Loretta Shaffer Watts, a lifelong pillar of the Central Community, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Rena Mae Shaffer; her brother, Alvin Shaffer (Carol); and her beloved son, Mac Watts. She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Shelton "Mac" Watts; her sister, Gwen Bergeron (Gerald); her son, Wes Watts (Jodie); and her daughter in law, Susan Watts Payton (Phil). She leaves behind five grandchildren-Travis Watts (Emily), Austin Watts (Jaci), Tyler Watts (Danielle), Kellie Watts, and Macee Watts (Shawn)-and ten great grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Remi, Grayson, Mac, Annistyn, Myles, Reese, Caroline, Emmitt, Eli, and Noel. Born and raised in Central, Loretta's roots in the community ran deep. She graduated from Central High School in 1961 and later worked for several years as the Attendance Clerk at Central Middle School, where she was known for her warm smile and steady presence. She went on to own and operate AAS Company for more than 30 years alongside her son Mac, proudly serving customers until the business was sold in 2020. Loretta's commitment to her community extended far beyond her work. She was a Founder and Board Member of Cooking in Central and served with grace and pride as First Lady during her husband Mac's nine year tenure as Mayor. Her dedication, hospitality, and quiet leadership touched countless lives. Above all, Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, Nanna, and great Nanna. She cherished attending school and community events, traveling, and playing golf with Mac and their friends. In her later years, nothing brought her more happiness than time spent on the family property surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whether she was working a crossword puzzle, piecing together a jigsaw, or sitting outside watching the little ones play, Loretta found joy in life's simple, beautiful moments. Her legacy of love, service, and family devotion will continue to live on in all who knew her. Visitation will be on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Zoar Baptist Church, Central, from 9:00 am until service time at 12:00 noon.
