Lori Durst Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 4, 2025.
Lori Anne Durst, a glowing beam of love and warmth, passed away after a long battle with cancer on October 2nd, 2025, in the peaceful town of Kimball, Michigan. Born on February 24th, 1962, in St. Clair, Michigan, Lori's life was one marked by unwavering passion, boundless love, and an enduring spirit that left an lasting mark on the hearts of those she encountered.
Lori's zest for life and her spirited nature were the cornerstones of her existence. A proud graduate of Marysville High School, she dedicated her professional life to working with handicapped and special needs individuals, a testament to her compassionate soul and desire to make a meaningful impact on the world around her. Her enthusiasm and her ability to empathize deeply with those in her care distinguished her career and won her the adoration and respect of colleagues and community members alike.
An ardent animal lover, Lori could not turn her back on a creature in need. With arms wide open, she rescued all different kinds of animals, bestowing upon them the same love and tenderness she shared so freely with the people in her life. This passion for nurturing life in all forms was one of the many ways in which Lori's boundless love manifested itself.
Lori is survived by her loving family, including her mother, Nancy Durst, her cherished sister Tammy (Robert) Bien and brother Larry (Kelly) Durst Jr. She was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews-Ashley, Steve, Kevin, Chelsea, Dylan, Kaitlyn, and Janae-and doted on her great-nieces and great-nephew, Elle, Anna, Stella, and Jackson, instilling in them her own brand of joy and enthusiasm. Lori was also a treasured niece to her aunts Gloria VanLuven and Judy (Ted) Morrison, and to her uncle Mike (Linda) Durst. While her father, Larry Durst, predeceased her, his memory remained a cornerstone of Lori's life. Lori's extended family, including several other aunts, uncles, cousins, and a vast network of close friends, will feel the absence of her radiant spirit profoundly.
As we bid farewell to Lori Anne Durst, we celebrate a life lived with extraordinary vigor and the deepest kind of tenderness. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we are comforted by the memories of her laughter, the warmth of her embrace, and the unwavering love she shared so generously. While her physical presence will be missed beyond measure, her spirit will continue to dance in the lives of those she loved, an eternal reminder of the remarkable woman she was.
A celebration of Lori's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Grace Memorial. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Lori, please visit our Tree Store.

Lori Durst was a friend of mine. Although we never met in person, we communicated over the internet for years. We shared a love of birds and a desire to make a difference for birds. Lori was so kind and so helpful to many people and as well as helpful to the birds. In spite of her long illness and daily suffering, she continued to help others. We at Eclectus Ark have long appreciated her kindness to us and our work for birds. We will be publishing a statement about Lori on our website in appreciation of her life and her work.
