Lorna Yvonna Hansen Drawe Giggey, born March 8, 1934 in the little prairie town of Cardston, Alberta, Canada, passed away peacefully at her home of natural causes on April 7, 2024. Lorna loved many things in this world. Nature filled her with joy and gratitude all her life. Another joy was cooking and sharing her expert creations with everyone, even people she was meeting for the first time by offering them some cookies. Lorna wanted this world to be a better place because she was here. What she did on this earth is important to her, to her family, to the others whose lives she touched, and to her Savior.

Lorna is the third daughter of Niels Leslie Hansen and Margaret (Margie) LeBaron Hansen. As she grew up in Cardston, she loved singing with her sisters and bringing the cows back to the barn at night. Her young endeavors include working in a shoe store, a grocery store, and managing the Dairy Dell drive-in. She won prizes for her elocution and loved to help both her mother with the laundry and her dad with the farm work. Lorna’s later adventures include working for the Utah State Extension Service which started her true calling as a tutor in the arts of mothering, homemaking, and nutritional healing. She shared her skills with family and friends and felt most fulfilled when they shared their appreciation. Hard work was her specialty in spite of many health challenges during her life.

Lorna married Heinz K. Drawe on November 25, 1953. They had six children together (Randy, Yvonna, Daniel, David, Dianna, and Mark). They later divorced in 1970. Lorna thoroughly enjoyed raising young ones and teaching them all her treasured activities like singing fun songs, decorating cookies, and planting a garden.

After her divorce, Lorna married Elmer A. Giggey on June 11, 1971, and together, with his five children (Sandra, Dennis, Linda, Rick, and Renae), they blended their family in creative ways like picnics and camping trips. These gatherings included family favorite musical numbers from Lorna and her singing guitar-playing husband Elmer. They enjoyed performing for the 40 years they were together. “Kiss an Angel Good Morning” has a whole new meaning now.

After Elmer’s passing in 2011, Lorna married Gaston (Jay) Garlick on July 8, 2015. They enjoyed collaborating on missionary reunions and projects to further the gathering of Israel on this earth. Their time together has helped both of them enjoy their golden years more fully.

Lorna was a storyteller, a singer, a poet, a song writer, and a playwright. She especially loved creating and directing roadshows, writing the scripts and songs as well as choregraphing the dances for the youth and adults. Lorna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved teaching the youth, especially Primary-aged children. Her faith in Jesus Christ gave her courage and strength in her challenging life.

Lorna was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Elmer; baby son David; daughter, Yvonna Evans; son, Randy Drawe; and sister, Thelma Hall. She is survived by her husband, Jay Garlick; her sons: Daniel Drawe, West Valley City, UT and Mark Drawe (Amy), Hurricane, UT; her daughter: Dianna Davidson (Calvin), Centerville, UT; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; her bonus mom Rawlene; four sisters, Jalaine, Judie, Patsy, Glenda; and her brother, Mathew.

Being a grandma was a joyous adventure for Lorna, and she loved teaching her grandchildren new things like how to skip a rock on a lake, how to build a blanket fort to watch a movie, and how to throw bread dough. She would like those who love her to think of her wading in a cool mountain stream while making a daisy chain necklace as she embraces her loved ones in the next life and grows in wisdom and experience surrounded by their love.

The family would like to thank the excellent caregivers of Rocky Mountain Care and Inspiration Home Health and Hospice for the tireless efforts and kind service they gave to Lorna in her most vulnerable times. Lorna’s family would also like to thank Fifita (Fifi) Aho for her generous service to and friendship with Lorna in her last few months. The family has deep gratitude for Victoria Merrill and other kind ward members and neighbors who served Lorna faithfully for years. Thank you to the team of earthly angels who served as the Savior did.

Lorna’s graveside service and a celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 1 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT 84123. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity in Lorna’s name.
