A visitation service will be held for Lorraine Sue "Susie" Barber, 72, on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.at the Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming.

Lorraine "Susie" Barber was born on Thursday, August 7, 1952 to John Alfred and Hazel Lorene (Thomas) Bonar in Douglas, Wyoming. A voracious reader since childhood, she left for the great big bookstore of life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

She is survived by her son, Brad (Amber) Barber; her daughter, Lynelle Barber; grandchildren, Bailey (Keenan) Duffy, Carson (Joelle) Barber, Garrison Barber, and Rian Longstreet; brother, John (Mindy) Bonar and his children; and her brother-in-law, Harry Richards and his children.

She is preceded in death by her father, John, on September 10, 2006; mother, Hazel, on November 25, 2011; and sister, Virgina Richards, on December 16, 2016.

Lorraine grew up in Glenrock, Wyoming with her older sister and younger brother. She attended Casper College, Dickinson State University, and Black Hills State University ultimately earning her Master's degree in Education. She taught in Douglas for 36 years. During her career in education, she taught Fourth Grade and at multiple Rural Schools, with the last few years teaching Title I Reading and Math.

Sharing moments with her family brought her joy. She instilled the importance of spending time with family in her children and grandchildren. Many great memories were made during family dinners throughout the years. Seeing her grandchildren grow up was one of her greatest accomplishments. She loved hearing about her grandchildren and the funny things they did.

Lorraine appreciated a quiet and more relaxed life during retirement. She had a tight-knit group of friends that she spoke to nearly daily and loved sharing stories. A day did not go by without Lorraine cracking open the cover of a book. Saying there was no book left unread is an understatement!

Lorraine will be missed by many, including the children whose lives she touched during her many years of teaching. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Red Panda Network or Laramie Peak Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
