Lorraine Sylvia Curtiss, age 98, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024,
after a 3 year-long struggle with dementia. Lorraine was born on March 27,
1926 in Deerfield Township, Michigan to Leon and Alice (Couillard)
Cornwall. Her family eventually settled in Lincoln Park, Mi. She married
Stanley Curtiss in 1948 and they settled in Allen Park, Mi which she
considered her hometown.
Lorraine spent her life as a mother and home maker. She was very involved
in her church as treasurer for the United Methodist Women's Society. She
served as financial secretary for Dix United Methodist Church for many
years until Stanley's death in 1997. Lorraine was an avid crocheter, making
1000's of hats which were donated to various charities and those in need.
She crocheted many afghans and intricate doll clothes for family and
friends. Lorriane always had a puzzle going on her kitchen table and loved
doing word searches, watching game shows and rooting for the Tigers. She
loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She cherished her time at home with her cats Daisy and
Seymore.
Lorraine is survived by her children Robert Curtiss, Cheryl (Jim) Berg,
William (Romaine) Curtiss, Colleen (Michael) Matey, and David (John
Lardin) Curtiss. She is also survived by her brother Russell (Marge)
Cornwall, 21 grandchildren and their significant others, 23 great
grandchildren and their significant others, 2 great great grandchildren, and
many nieces, nephews, and friends. Lorraine was preceded in death by her
husband of 49 years Stanley Curtiss, her parents Leon and Alice Cornwall,
her daughter-in-law Gail Curtiss, her brothers Charles, James and Calvin
Cornwall, and her sister Metta Patera.
Visitation and celebration of life will be held on July 5, 2024, at Weise
Funeral Home in Allen Park, MI from 3 to 7 pm. Pastor Jonathan Combs
will officiate the funeral service which will be held immediately following
visitation at 7 pm at the funeral home. Lorraine will be interred at Michigan
Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
made to Downriver United Methodist Church, Taylor, MI.
Lorraine will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature, her
love for her family, and her passion for crocheting. She will be missed by all
who knew her.
