Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc. - Pearl River on Oct. 1, 2025.
Ruth Lorraine Hutter, known as Lorraine, passed away peacefully at her home in Stony Point, NY on August 6, 2025 after a courageous battle with ALS. She was 67 years old.
Lorraine was born on October 2, 1957, at St. Albans Naval Hospital in Queens, NY, and grew up in North Babylon on Long Island. She attended SUNY Farmingdale and soon after began her career as a legal secretary for Dean Witter Reynolds in New York City. In 1979 she married the love of her life, Eddie Hutter. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and community.
In 1984, Lorraine and Eddie moved to
West Nyack, NY to raise their family and to be closer to Eddie's business. Lorraine worked alongside her husband at E.R. Hutter Transportation for over 20 years, serving as Vice President, where she handled secretarial duties and dispatch operations.
Lorraine was deeply involved in the lives of her children and her community. She was a proud and passionate PTA member at both Strawtown Elementary and Clarkstown South High School. Known as the ultimate "soccer mom," she was often heard enthusiastically cheering from the sidelines- even long after her own children had graduated.
She loved the beach, especially her treasured time in Lavallette, NJ, which she called her happy place. Lorraine also loved cooking, hosting family gatherings and holidays, dancing to disco music, and most of all, being a devoted mother and "Nana." Her grandchildren-PJ, Jackson, Dalton, and Albert-were the lights of her life, and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first granddaughter.
Lorraine served the Borough of Montvale, NJ for 22 years as their Land Use Administrator and office manager where her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression. She always made the workplace more enjoyable for everyone she worked with planning theme days and festive activities.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Eddie Hutter; her children Nicole Carro, Ryan Hutter, Christine Hutter, and Kaitlyn Girgenti; her sons-in-law Louis Girgenti and Michael LaBruzzi; her adored grandchildren PJ Pfeiffer, Jackson Carro, Dalton Carro, and Albert Girgenti; her siblings Harry James Kenning II, Marene Van Farowe, and Nancy Padrone; and many extended family and friends who will miss her deeply. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert D'Amato, and her parents Harry James Kenning I and Ruth Kenning.
Visitation will be held at Joseph Sorce Funeral Home in
Pearl River, NY on Sunday August 10, 2025 from 3-7 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church in
Pearl River, NY on Monday August 11, 2025 at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Rockland Cemetery.
