Lorraine Kellogg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Helgeson Funeral Home - Warroad on Mar. 18, 2024.
Lorraine Kellogg passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital, in Brainerd, MN, on March 4, 2024. She was born in Warroad, MN, on August 8, 1938, to John and Evangeline Pick.
After graduating from Warroad High School, she completed Licensed Practical Nurses Training in Thief River Falls, MN, and then worked for a brief time at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Returning home to Warroad, MN, she met Marvin Kellogg, editor of the local newspaper, and they were later married October 4, 1959. Together they owned "The Glass Block" clothing store and built a log cabin gift shop called the "Trading Post", serving the local tourists. In 1964, they sold their businesses in Warroad and moved to Longville, MN, where they purchased "The Sport Shop". In 1980, they opened "Kellogg's Northwoods Gift Shop", and later, Lorraine operated "The Summer Place".
It is here, in Longville, they built the home they loved on the Lake. Lorraine enjoyed her flowers, especially her delphiniums, and watching Marv's coming and going with his float plane on the lake. Together they would also fly back and forth to visit family and friends up North.
They enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with her two sisters and their families and would then head south to Winter in Florida. She planted orchids there and enjoyed their fruit trees, bringing back oranges and grapefruit to be shared with family and friends.
Lorraine was incredibly talented in art, having previously done oil paintings; she tried something new, and became a member of the Naples Porcelain Artists. It was here that her love of China painting began, every year she created many beautiful pieces. In later years when her nephews and nieces and their families would stop to visit, they would always enjoy seeing them and hearing her enthusiasm when she talked about making them.
After Marv's passing in 2015, she continued making the fudge and operating "Kellogg's Northwoods Gift Shop" until her retirement. Lorraine was an independent and strong-willed lady, who desired to remain in her home, even when her health was failing. When we would try to encourage her to consider moving into a senior retirement home, we were always reminded who was in charge, and told to put any notion of that to rest!
The family has many wonderful memories of spending time with Marv and Lorraine in Longville during the summer, where the nieces and nephews enjoyed Turtle Races, famous fudge, huge ice cream cones, fishing, plane rides, and simply spending time with them at their stores.
As her family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the many friends and family who stopped by to visit, bring her meals and treats, run errands, take her to appointments, or called to check up on her. Your acts of kindness were all greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
